Asia’s Workers Fight for Health, Safety and Workplace Rights
Speaker: Sanjiv Pandita

Monday, January 25
5:00 pm
Chinese Progressive Association
1042 Grant Ave, 5th floor, San Francisco, CA
(between Jackson and Pacific)

Sanjiv Pandita is Executive Director of the Asia Monitor Resource Centre (AMRC) and has been on the front lines of labor activism in Asia for more than a decade. His expertise in Occupational Health and Safety has won international awards, including from the Silicon Valley Toxics Coalition, and recognition as one of the 50 most influential Environmental, Health and Safety leaders in 2008. Sanjiv’s writings on grassroots movements and workers’ health issues have been published widely.

Sanjiv will speak about worker organizing for safe workplaces in the electronics, garment, toy, sport shoe and ship-breaking industries and to protect environmental and community health. This is increasingly important as Asia becomes the factory for the world as well as the global dumping ground. An open discussion period will follow each presentation.

Low-wage workers are in crisis with the prominence of wage theft, exploitation, and unemployment, and the crisis will only grow with the Mayor’s so-called “balanced budget”.
