Chinese Immigrants Complete Job Training Program

24 Workers Graduate from Vocational Hospitality Training Program

On Thursday, May 23rd, 24 Chinese immigrants will graduate from the Chinese Progressive Association’s Restaurant Career Ladder Program (RCLP). RCLP is a vocational training and placement program that aims to expand the employment skills of limited English speaking Chinese immigrants and help them access stable living-wage employment in the hospitality and service industry.

This year, 24 students spent 38 weeks studying workplace English, learning about the hospitality and service industry, practicing mock interviews, and learning how to apply for jobs. Students visited hotels including the Holiday Inn Fisherman’s Wharf and the Fairmont Hotel. They also met with other immigrant workers currently employed in the industry.

One student, Jennifer Lei, reflects, "This class is very helpful for anyone who wants to be working in the hotel industry. The teachers taught us things that are applicable at my job right now, such as the amenities at a hotel. Because of the class, I was able to find my job right now and I am gaining experience in hospitality every day."

Graduates will receive certificates for completing the program.
