SUPERVISORS CALL FOR  NEGOTIATIONS UPDATE ON CPMC DEVELOPMENT AGREEMENT; NEW STUDY SHOWS CPMC SHOULD CONTRIBUTE MORE TO CHARITY CARE

Tomorrow, the Board of Supervisors will hold a Committee of the Whole hearing to receive an update on the status of negotiations between California Pacific Medical Center (CPMC), the Mayor's office, and various city departments. CPMC has not yet agreed to the Mayor's demands asking for city benefits, nor have they been willing to meet with community and labor coalitions to discuss a community benefits agreement. The hearing comes a week after a new study was released by UC Hastings which documents the significant shortfall of charity care that CPMC provides compared to other non-profit hospitals in San Francisco, despite having the highest profit margin.

WHO: Community members and union workers from a broad, city-wide community and labor coalition will give public comment about how CPMC's proposed developments will affect them and advocate for their concerns to be addressed through specific demands and a community benefits agreement.

WHAT: Board of Supervisors Committee of the Whole Hearing on the status of negotiations between the City and CPMC.

WHEN: Tuesday, December 13, 2011, 4:00 PM (Estimated time)

WHERE: Board Chambers, Room 250, City Hall, 1 Dr. Carlton B. Goodlett Place

WHY: The Committee of the Whole hearing will require City Department heads to give an update on the issues of healthcare, traffic and transit, housing, and workforce developments as they pertain to the negotiations of a Development Agreement between the City and CPMC. The hearing will give Supervisors the opportunity to ask questions and discuss these issues.
