Special Projects Coordinator
Lauren Liu is the Special Projects Coordinator of Chinese Progressive Association. A queer Asian American womxn of color, Lauren grew up in a low-income single parent household in San Mateo, CA. In 2014, she participated in the inaugural class of the Seeding Change Fellowship Program as an Eva Lowe Fellow at CPA where she discovered her love of working with young people. She has continued working at CPA since the fellowship program in a variety of roles such as coordinator of the queer youth program (GSD), fellowship program staff, and community event planner. Lauren has orchestrated mental health trainings for staff and held youth space to explore mental and emotional wellness and healing.
Before coming to CPA, Lauren received her B.A. in Ethnic Studies and Asian American Studies from UC Berkeley. She has supported incarcerated, formerly incarcerated, and homeless folks through prisoner rights work and direct services in San Francisco and East Bay organizations. In 2017, Lauren graduated with a Master’s in Social Work from UC Berkeley with a concentration on community mental health. In addition to CPA, Lauren works as a therapist healer supporting young people at Richmond High School to realize their power in their voices, finding their liberation from trauma, and becoming agents of change in their communities.
