Sophia was introduced to worker centers and the labor movement a decade ago and has been working with Asian and Latinx immigrant communities ever since. She has worked as an organizer and trainer at the Restaurant Opportunities Center, Southeast Asian Community Alliance, and the Koreatown Immigrant Workers Alliance. Sophia was a founding member of Chinatown Community for Equitable Development in Los Angeles.
She has worked on successful restaurant workplace campaigns to secure stolen wages and improve working conditions, as well as local and state policy campaigns to pass minimum wage, paid sick days and wage enforcement legislation.
From 2017 to 2020, Sophia was a lecturer in the Department of Asian American Studies at UCLA, where she taught a service-learning practicum and was an active union member in UC-AFT.
Her favorite activities are eating pizza and spending time with her kids in nature. Her parents are from Guangzhou, China.
