National Guard, Federal Agents and ICE have no place in the Bay Area

Dear community,

We hope you are taking care of yourselves as much as possible. News reports this week shared that Trump would be deploying  ICE and other federal agents to the Bay Area for mass enforcement. Yesterday, more than 100 federal agents (including ICE) were dispatched to a U.S. Coast Guard base in the East Bay. This morning, it was reported that Mayor Daniel Lurie and the president spoke about calling off the deployment in San Francisco. However, an alleged calling off deployment in one city is not enough for our community’s safety. We are monitoring the situation throughout the Bay Area and want to make sure that our communities are equipped with the information necessary to fight back.

Militarization and power grab endangers our communities and families and erodes our freedoms. What we truly need is investment in communities. We need stable and affordable housing, a living-wage job with respect and dignity, and financial freedom from losing everything when you get sick or get into an accident. Every dollar spent on the ICE and other federal agents is a dollar taken from our community’s true safety.

Community safety is built from the ground up and involves showing up and caring for one another.  Together, we have built safety, leaning on solidarity, joy, and connection. All around us, people in the Bay Area are organizing to meet the moment. We have what it takes, and here’s a few ways that we can take collective action:
