Chinese Community Joins Local Occupy Wall Street Protests and Declares: “We Are the 99%!”

On Wednesday, October 11th, members of the Chinese community in San Francisco will be joining the nationwide movement to Occupy Wall Street, and declaring that they too are the 99% who are suffering in America. The Chinese Progressive Association is proud to stand with the Occupy Wall Street, Occupy Together, and other efforts across the country. Already, in recent weeks, the Chinese community has joined protests in New York and Boston. The movement has grown larger and larger, and immigrant communities are joining these actions because they have seen firsthand the growing inequality in America.

WHAT: Members of the Chinese community and the Chinese Progressive Association will participate in the Wall Street West protest and march in San Francisco’s Financial District, as part of the growing Occupy Wall Street movement. SF Supervisor John Avalos, bestselling author Naomi Klein, and community members fighting to save their homes from foreclosure will speak.

WHEN: Wednesday, October 12th at 7 AM to 9 AM

WHERE: Federal Reserve, 101 Market Street in San Francisco followed by march through Financial District

VISUALS: Chinese community members will be holding “We are the 99%!” (我們是99%) signs in Chinese and English. Photos available upon request.

Interviews in Chinese and English will be available.
