Feb 2024 Newsletter: Forging the Futures We Need- Vote Now!

Dear community,

Happy Lunar New Year! Over the weekend, we welcomed members, their families, Activists, OGs and elders, and friends of CPA to celebrate the new year and warm our new office space.

As we made our wishes for the new year, we also talked about this March’s elections, and why our votes matter.

🧧🐉 Dragon scale wishes for 2024 from our Lunar New Year celebration:

Earlier in February, we launched our bilingual March Primary Election voter guide! In the past few weeks, CPA members leaders and staff discussed and educated each other about upcoming local ballot measures, and we made our endorsements based on our mission and work in improving conditions for immigrant working families in San Francisco.

CPA recommends the following positions to San Francisco voters. Read our analysis and share it out!

In the past months, I’ve spoken with many community members about what they wish to see in San Francisco: affordable housing for their families, more funding for community resources like workers rights outreach, and to feel safe walking around our neighborhoods.

In March, everyday voters like you and I have the power to shape the future we want to see- one where everyone is treated with dignity, and where we build thriving communities.

  • Share CPA’s bilingual voter guide with your family and friends!
  • CPA is holding drop-in Ballot Assistance hours for anyone who would like help to understand or turn in their ballot: Wednesday 2/28 from 3-6pm at 1020 Kearny St, San Francisco. We will also be providing voter and ballot assistance all Election Day (3/5), visit our election page for updates.

Vote Now! Election Day is Tuesday, March 5th:

  • If you haven’t registered to vote, you are able to register to vote in-person, up to Election Day.
  • Make a plan: Mail in your ballot or go to your local polling place before or on Tuesday, March 5th.
  • Remind your friends & families that they should vote now!
  • If you have questions, you can call the Department of Elections at:
    • 中文: (415)554-4367
    • English: (415)554-4375

The measures on this March’s ballot directly impact our ability to forge the future we need. It starts with voting – let’s organize our friends, families, and neighbors together!

The Year of the Wood Dragon symbolizes transformation, connection, and breaking down barriers. We know this applies to our work here in Chinatown and San Francisco, as we fight for economic justice, safer communities, and dignity & liberation for all.

This year, we want to build a thriving community, where everyone can prosper, and we know it will take grassroots leadership and multiracial solidarity to get there. We look forward to continuing to build our movement with you this year!

🫖  Join Our Movement- We Have Tea Time! 🫖

This year, CPA is bringing back our Activist Network tea time – a space where activists and volunteers come to sip on tea, discuss political issues, and build community.

Our first session in January consisted of 8 new and returning Activists. We set intentions for the new year, discussed ballot measures in the March elections, and talked about why each of us organize. Ashley, a returning CPA Activist over the past years, shared: “I organize because I am able to.”

2024 will be a challenging year with 2 elections, and one where we have opportunities to build a stronger and bigger movement to win concrete changes for our working-class immigrant communities of color. We organize because we are able to – and CPA has always been open to those who want to contribute to a larger vision.
