拾荒華裔老人在舊金山灣景區遭受非裔集體欺凌的事件,持續在社交媒體瘋傳,已成為國際事件,舊金山警方25 日已將事件列為仇恨犯罪案件處理,並呼籲民眾協助找尋受害的拾荒老人及欺凌者.
主持調查事務的副局長拉薩25 日說,原本拾荒華裔老人遭欺凌案件是由灣景分局調查組偵辦,但當警方人員審查有關的錄影帶後,可清楚聽到案中的嫌犯提到「我憎恨亞裔」的語句,已構成仇恨犯罪,警察總局主持仇恨犯罪調查工作的一組調查人員已接手處理。
拉薩並公布三張取材自社交媒體影片的拾荒老人照片,期盼認識受害者的人士與警方聯絡。拉薩說,警方希望與受害人接觸,以了解更多經過,對警方的調查工作十分重要,直至25 日傍晚,警方尚未聯絡上受害人。
影片顯示,拾荒華裔老人原來推著滿放汽水罐的購物車,但被一非裔男子搶走,華裔老人企圖取回購物車,被該名非裔男以長棍威脅追打,現場尚有一群非裔男女圍觀叫好,並辱罵華裔老人,影片更可見華裔老人驚慌哭叫。
市長布里德針對事件在推特發表簡短貼文寫道:「舊金山警局及街頭防罪小組已調查事件。」加州參議員威善高及加州眾議員邱信福先後發表聲明,指責事件涉及仇恨犯罪及歧視。
最先讉責事件的灣景區市議員華頌善宣布將於周四(27日)下午2時,在案發現場的Osceola Lane舉行社區團結集會,其他市議員將出席。
灣景區活躍人士柏利宣布,非裔社區對拾荒老人的遭遇感到憤怒,為了譴責事件,非裔社區將於本周日(30日)下午3時,在案發現場Osceola Lane舉行一場宣揚和平互助互愛精神的集會。
華人進步會與非裔團體「柯爾曼倡導會」發表聯合聲明,譴責事件,並促請市長布里德及市府為各族裔受害人提供更完善的服務。
